Reading the sleeve notes to this weighty and gorgeously packaged 2-CD set mixed by Berlin ambient/downtempo DJ Dr Atmo is something of a challenge. Put simply as possible Milk & Honey is a kind fashion/anti-fashion label for women with its own multi-media events which are "more stage set than tradeshow....where international trend labels can be displayed alongside contemporary cool fashions, surrounded by art in a highly emotional environment". Right, then. Moving onto the accompanying album, all the tracks on Milk & Honey are sourced from upcoming releases on Atmo's own Brilliant Tree label. You might call it lounge music but not quite as we know it. Its mostly interesting, occasional striking, definitely the sound of a label trying to carve out something distinctive and artful in the often clichéd world of Euro lounge. There's slow breaks and grooves, sexy stripped back trip hop, minimal funk, reverberating dub and a few new age monologues like Miss Silenco's "Life Is Nothing Without Love". A couple of Atmo's own recent compositions appear here as well, but don't expect anything resembling his deep ethno-ambient and spacemusic excursions of the previous decades. The 1st disc hangs together better than the 2nd, the latter suffering from an over-emphasis on bare beats at the expense of meaty basslines. Still, at its best this mix is a breath of fresh air. Rating 4,5/5.

Diese Compilation mit 26 wunderschönen Tracks von zum Beispiel Hoody, Animaters oder Nightliners ist ein wahres Meisterwerk des Ambient und wurde von niemand geringerem zusammengestellt, als von Dr. Atmo, Deutschlands erster Instanz in diesem relaxten Musik-Style. Der gebürtige Teheraner kam Ende der 70er nach Frankfurt am Main und kultivierte dort als erster Deutscher Künstler Ambient-Tunes im damaligen XS-Club. Seitdem veröffentlichte der ebenso als Architekt erfolgreiche Perser nicht weniger als 35 Alben. 21 davon allein auf seinem 2000 gegründetem Label Brilliant Tree, das er nach der wegweisenden 82er Platte von Davis Sylvian benannte. Mittlerweile lebt auch er in Berlin und war von Anfang an für die entspannende, musikalische Untermalung der Bread & Butter Modemesse verantwortlich. Nun kann endlich jeder auch von zu Hause aus die großartigen Sounds genießen. roc (Doppelalbum-CD)
